Dearest Lillian and Sophia,

I have been watching the relationship you two have very closely. You see, myself and your Ti-Ti are about ten years apart give or take. You two have about 7 years between you and sometimes I recognize so much of my own sisterhood with your auntie and then there are days when I truly feel you two couldn’t be anymore different.  When your aunt was just a baby I took her on as my own living breathing baby doll. I cherished her.  I took her everywhere I went.  She was such a part of me. Little pieces of me in such a special package.  Naturally when I was pregnant with you, Lillian, some of that transferred right onto you from Ti-Ti as you were the exact same age difference as I was from her. I had kind of thought that may trickle right on down to you and your own baby sister.  Kind of like a special chain.  I have realized however that things wouldn’t be quite exactly the same.  Sure there are days when you proclaim “Princess Days” for Sophia. You dress her up and paint her nails.  You two take on the world, or at least your brothers together.  She is your perfect little playmate. But I also understand that at ten years old you like your space.  It can be challenging having your baby sister forever interested in your things.  I know there are times when you look away and other times when you just can’t ignore it.  I want to tell you as your mother that this is okay. You two are individuals. You are not me. Sophie is not Ti-Ti.  I can tell you somethings from experience though.  I love that you are both individuals and you embrace each other but are perfectly capable of being independent. When you two grow up you will be all the closer for that. Best friends at the very least.  I can tell you all this from the experience I have with my own baby sister.  I wasn’t perfect. Being a teenager when your auntie was just a small child there were moments when I came home to a flooded bedroom (Ti-Ti was found of playing “Barbie Jacuzzi” with her friend while I was out.) or finding my make up smeared on clothing or missing all together.  But as an adult now I truly covet her.  Our relationship and bond has grown stronger. And there is a bit of that same maternal instinct in your as there was in me at your age Lillian.  It will get easier.

Sophie I know it hurts sometimes when your sister gives you the cold shoulder. Know this too will pass. It isn’t personal darling. Take heart.  I see things you personally couldn’t. Like for instance the way your sister hovers and looks over you when you might be doing something you shouldn’t. You may think shes tattling but I see the tale times of genuine concern.  The way she holds your hand in public. The way she let’s you play dress up in her special clothes and sometimes gives you her favorite dolls when you play together. The way she runs to tell me something cute or funny you do and you can see the pride shining in her eyes.  Yes Sophie. She loves you and I have no doubt she would do just about anything for you.  You are a blessed little girl to have siblings that adore you and protect you. You aren’t just my baby. You are their baby as well.

Just know that God has chosen to give you a very special gift. Sisterhood is something I have always wanted for you Lillian so know that Sophie is an opportunity of a lifetime. You will never quite have friends like your siblings. Honor each other.  Most blessed of all though is me. I not only get to be your mommy I get to nurture you and watch you all grow apart and together.

I love you both so much,

My Little Men,

It seems we are hitting a crossroads.  For years I can honestly say you were both the proverbial mama’s boys.  Granted I am sure you wouldn’t want to be called that much later on in life but at both eight and six year’s old it is completely okay as far as I am concerned right now. Lately though you are both becoming more and more independent.  You not only can but want to entertain yourselves and I am seeing you grow more and more into an easy friendship.  There are so many times I need to step back and remind myself that this is how it is. This is how it should be.  I do long for the extra cuddles and easy kisses.  Wesley, as an example you won’t even let me kiss you on your mouth now. You actually haven’t for a little while but prefer to be kissed on the forehead and whenever I go in to kiss you, you put your head down. I asked why you do this and you replied “I don’t want to be married to you.” Ha! So cute and well so sweetly naive and I do love that too.  You both are full of questions.  Always asking questions about the silliest and sweetest things. The questions are starting to turn to other things though that I don’t yet know how to discuss with you. I am working on that.  Thank goodness for daddy. You both also are learning the importance of kindness and responsibility. No your rooms are not spotless but you are learning courtesy in at least trying to clean up after your general messes. I will admit though getting you two to clean your rooms is a bit I imagine like pulling teeth. You both lay on your beds and cry the other isn’t helping enough. That’s real life though! Either way I love being a mom of boys. Your imagination, your sense of wonder. Everyday holds a bit of magic and I am loving getting to see life through your own eyes. I couldn’t imagine life without super hero capes and stick wands!!

Love always,

Now head to see the talented Jessica Gwozdz Photography’s Letter to her son HERE.

I can’t believe February is already here.

Our January was pretty low key. We were invaded with a nasty stomach bug that seemed to space itself out to the point everyone in the house got it just about any given week of last month. As a mother when your family is ill it consumes everything and your sole focus is getting everyone back on their feet. I didn’t take nearly as many photos as I usually do so I don’t have an abundance to share but I figured I would share a few none-the-less.

And be sure to head to the talented Jenny Cruger Photography | Nashville child photographer here to see how what her month looked like!

This summer I really pushed myself. We did quite a bit of traveling and one of our trips was to head back to CT and shoot a beautiful wedding.  As most know I specialize mostly in Children and Families but love a good challenge so I thought I would push myself to see how I felt about the possibility of adding weddings to my roster. I learned one thing in particular. Weddings are NOT for the faint of heart. The work volume. The fast pace. It really was a completely consuming albeit amazing experience. Would I do it again? It depends on the opportunity. I do think to in order to photograph weddings you really need to gel with the bride and groom. You have to really be able to marry your vision with theirs.

This particular bride is actually my Baby cousin.  We grew up together and in fact she was a bridesmaid on my own special wedding day almost ten years ago. It was so surreal watching her get ready and then walk down the aisle. I was so emotionally invested in this wedding there were so many times I had to choke back tears. Never the less it was an incredible honor and I love these two so very much!! My husband even second shot for me making it a total family affair.

The images are pretty much in the order they were taken. There were MANY, many more but I just chose some of my favorites in the interest of load time. The one thing harder then shooting a wedding may be blogging a wedding lol!!
